Waterbury Men Arrested for Drugs, Firearm Seized

Cocaine and unlicensed gun found in traffic stop

WATERBURY — Two men from Waterbury were arrested on Jan. 29 after a traffic stop led police to recover cocaine, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and an unlicensed firearm.

Officers patrolling the area of Grant Street and Branch Street stopped the vehicle for multiple traffic violations. During the stop, authorities seized a Taurus G3 9mm handgun, various drug paraphernalia, and narcotics.

The driver, Damian Rodriguez, 21, faces numerous charges including possession with intent to sell narcotics, possession of a high-capacity magazine, carrying a firearm without a permit, possession in a school zone, illegal sale or transfer of a firearm, and traffic-related violations.

The passenger, Nicholas Bonet, 35, was charged with possession with intent to sell narcotics, possession in a school zone, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rodriguez is being held on a $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on March 5. Bonet was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on March 19.
