A 19-year-old man, Warron Maspero, was arrested in San Antonio after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen Kia Optima, and later admitting to the crime via social media. Maspero faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, evading arrest with a vehicle, and unauthorized use of a vehicle, according to Bexar County Jail records.

The incident began on March 4, when San Antonio police received an alert about a stolen Kia Optima near Goliad Road and Southeast Military Drive. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but Maspero refused to pull over, triggering a pursuit.

During the chase, Maspero’s vehicle ran off the road several times, hitting a curb and blowing out a tire. Eventually, the car spun out at the intersection of Dollarhide and Colglazier avenues, facing the officer’s vehicle. As the officer exited his patrol car, Maspero drove directly toward him. In response, the officer fired at Maspero to “stop the threat,” though Maspero managed to flee and abandoned the stolen car at a nearby apartment complex.

The Kia had been reported stolen a week before the chase. Investigators lifted fingerprints and palm prints from the vehicle, linking Maspero to the crime.

Further investigation revealed two social media accounts believed to belong to Maspero. An undercover officer reached out to him online, where Maspero admitted to being involved in the car chase and confirmed details of the incident that had not been made public. He also provided videos showing his face, which helped solidify his identity.

A warrant for Maspero’s arrest was issued on March 27, and he was taken into custody on Wednesday.
