Police have arrested Vishal alias Kallu, a wanted jewellery theft accused, following an encounter late Tuesday night.
According to DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary, police received information that the accused was spotted in Banpurwa. When officers cordoned off the area and asked him to stop, he opened fire and tried to flee. In a retaliatory action, a bullet hit his right leg, and he was apprehended. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, after which he will be sent to jail.
Vishal alias Kallu, a resident of Shivaji Puliya in Barra, was wanted for the theft of 3 kgs of silver jewellery from a showroom in Jarauli Phase-2 owned by Gaurav Verma on the night of 14 December 2025. CCTV footage led police to crack the case on 20 December, arresting Vishal Gupta alias Mannu Bihari of Gujaini village and Karan of Mayapuram Kachchi Basti, Gujaini, who were sent to jail.
Vishal Kallu had escaped from police custody on 15 January, pushing a homeguard while pretending to go to the bathroom. He had remained absconding until his arrest on the night of 14 January while allegedly planning another crime.
Police continue to investigate and ensure all associates involved in the jewellery theft are apprehended.
