Travon Bottoms faces felony charges after drugs and firearms were discovered during proactive police patrol.
New Bern police made a significant arrest early Wednesday morning after a proactive patrol led to the discovery of firearms, ammunition, and suspected heroin in the possession of a Virginia man.
At approximately 2:14 a.m. on Wednesday, officers observed a suspicious individual pacing between buildings in the Craven Terrace area. According to New Bern police Lt. Robert Holton, the man, later identified as 27-year-old Travon Bottoms of Portsmouth, Virginia, was seen entering a residence and leaving with a backpack, which he then handed off to a vehicle waiting nearby.
Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, and a police department K-9 unit provided probable cause for a search of the vehicle. Inside the backpack, officers found two concealed firearms, ammunition, and narcotics believed to be heroin.
Bottoms was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. He is currently being held in custody as the investigation continues.
