The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Unit 3 has successfully apprehended Vinod Pal, a suspect in a recent robbery case, after tracking him down to a village in Madhya Pradesh. The breakthrough came from key information provided by the fingerprint department. According to Crime Branch officials, Pal had fled Mumbai after committing the robbery and was seen on various CCTV cameras during his escape. The fingerprint department linked his images with their extensive criminal records, uncovering his history and confirming his fugitive status.
Police revealed that technical surveillance led them to pinpoint Pal’s hideout near the border of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Armed with this intel, Crime Branch teams launched coordinated operations across several districts, including Niwari, Datia, and Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh, and Jhansi and Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh.
During the investigation, authorities located Pal hiding in a field near Simra Phata, using tall grass for cover. When the Crime Branch team arrived, Pal’s relatives tried to conceal him under sacks of grass and resisted the arrest. Despite being attacked by the relatives, the police team successfully captured Pal.
Although the stolen goods were hidden elsewhere and have not yet been recovered, the fingerprint department’s invaluable assistance in solving the case earned them a reward of Rs50,000.
