Indore’s Vijay Nagar police apprehended Vijendra, a notorious interstate burglar, on Monday, recovering stolen property valued at nearly Rs 1 crore.
Operating solo, Vijendra is connected to 31 theft cases across several states, police officials confirmed.
The arrest came after a theft on the night of June 9-10, 2025, at the home of Piyush Grover, where jewellery and Rs 31.50 lakh in cash were stolen.
Following the incident, a case was registered, and a special investigation team was formed under Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh and senior officials.
Led by Vijay Nagar Station In-charge Chandrakant Patel, the team analyzed over 600 CCTV recordings, which confirmed that a single individual committed the crime.
Using cyber intelligence and informant tips, the police arrested Vijendra—also known as Bantu or Suresh, aged 40—from his residence in Amravati, Maharashtra.
During interrogation, Vijendra admitted to multiple thefts across Madhya Pradesh and other states, stated Additional DCP Amrendra Singh.
Recovered items include about 550 grams of gold, Rs 5 lakh cash, and a stolen Hyundai Xcent car bought with criminal proceeds.
Described as a seasoned criminal, Vijendra has a long record involving theft, housebreaking, and drug trafficking, with prior imprisonments in Gwalior, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Bhopal.
Singh revealed that Vijendra financed a lavish lifestyle of drinking, gambling, and luxury cars. To avoid capture, he operated alone, avoided mobile phone use, frequently changed residences, used multiple SIM cards, and traveled via public transport targeting isolated homes from afar.
