In a significant achievement, the Vijayawada police have apprehended six members of an Uttar Pradesh-based gang responsible for stealing Rs 2.51 crore worth of iPhones and laptops from a warehouse located in Enikepadu, Vijayawada.
According to the police, the gang, headed by a person named Ranjit, had been active in Andhra Pradesh for some time. They were reportedly gathering intelligence about local warehouses and had planned the theft of the Enikepadu warehouse on the night of February 5.
The gang infiltrated the warehouse by cutting through the roof and made off with the electronics. However, their crime spree came to an end on February 7 when the police tracked them down as they attempted to escape to Bihar. The authorities have recovered all the stolen items, including the iPhones and laptops.
The police are also investigating how the gang managed to gain access to sensitive details about the warehouse and its security measures. In response to the incident, Vijayawada police officials have announced plans to enhance security in the area, including the installation of CCTV cameras and the creation of security monitoring committees for warehouses and stores.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajashekhar Babu emphasized, “We will not tolerate any form of criminal activity in our city.”
