Chheharta police have apprehended a burglar, Vijay Kumar alias Johney, in connection with a four-day-old burglary at a building materials shop.
Lovepreet Singh, SHO of Chheharta police station, said the shop owner, Shiv Kumar, reported that an unknown individual had stolen Rs 1.75 lakh from his cash box while he had stepped out for work. The incident was captured on the shop’s CCTV camera.
Police teams analysed the footage and, combining technical evidence with human intelligence, identified the accused as Vijay Kumar, a habitual offender. Records show he has around eight theft cases pending across Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Hoshiarpur.
The police recovered Rs 10,000 in cash from him. Investigations are ongoing to trace and recover the remaining stolen amount.
