Victor Mariscal Shot by Police in El Paso Standoff

Suspect armed with knives injured in police response

EL PASO, Texas — A man was hospitalized after being shot by El Paso Police during a confrontation in the Lower Valley on Saturday, June 13.

Police were called to a home in the 9500 block of North Loop Drive in response to a report of family violence. Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect, later identified as Victor Enrique Mariscal, who was armed with two knives.

According to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD), officers initially deployed a taser during the encounter. When the situation escalated, they discharged their firearms, injuring Mariscal.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released shortly after. Mariscal was then booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

EPPD says the incident is still under investigation.
