In a bizarre robbery case, Lucknow police arrested two men from Haryana—Vicky Nath and Arun Nath—for looting a Delhi-based businessman while disguised as sadhus. The incident occurred near the Old Jail crossing in Alambagh on Tuesday.
The victim, Rohan Kashyap of Shakarpur, New Delhi, was en route to his aunt’s house in Munshipulia when he was stopped by two men clad in saffron robes and covered in ash. Claiming to collect donations for Nag Panchami, the duo asked for daan (donation) as Kashyap slowed down his vehicle.
As soon as he rolled down the window, the two fake sadhus snatched his gold chain and a purse containing Rs4,500 in cash before fleeing the scene.
An FIR was promptly registered. DCP Central Ashish Srivastava stated that police examined CCTV footage from the area and tracked the suspects to the Devi Khera crossing. The duo was apprehended by the police team led by ACP Cantonment Abhay Pratap Mall.
The stolen gold chain and cash were recovered. The accused, both residents of Sonepat, Haryana, have been charged under multiple sections of the IPC, including robbery and impersonation. They remain in police custody as further investigation continues.
