ATLANTA — A former employee of the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has been arrested and charged with attempting to commit a felony sexual assault and smuggling contraband to inmates without authorization.

Vickie Frantz, who worked as a purchasing assistant at the Atlanta Transitional Center, was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Office on July 7 — the same day she was fired by GDC.

According to arrest warrants, the incident occurred on June 30. Frantz is accused of allowing an inmate into her office and being caught in an attempt to engage in sexual activity. She also allegedly accepted payment to smuggle five packs of cigarettes into the center for an inmate, violating facility rules.

Frantz had only been employed since March 18. She is now being held by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

In a statement, the Georgia Department of Corrections reaffirmed its commitment to integrity:

“We maintain a zero-tolerance policy for individuals who choose to ignore their oath and jeopardize our non-negotiable mission of public safety. These actions do not reflect the dedication of the hundreds of officers who serve daily to keep our facilities safe.”

Frantz faces serious charges and an ongoing investigation into her actions while employed at the transitional facility.
