SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio woman, Veronica Mejia Menjares, also known as Vero, has been sentenced to over 21 years in federal prison for her role in methamphetamine trafficking and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
The sentence, handed down on Monday by U.S. District Judge David Ezra, includes 200 months for methamphetamine charges and an additional five years for the firearm offense, totaling nearly 26 years.
Court documents reveal that Menjares, 40, sold methamphetamine on three occasions between March 6 and April 4, 2023, and also sold heroin twice during the same period.
She was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on April 4, following a drug transaction. A search of her backpack uncovered 62.1 grams of heroin, 392.48 grams of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 23 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and a loaded 9mm handgun.
A subsequent federal search of Menjares’s residence revealed four assault rifles, three additional 9mm handguns, and six rifle magazines, one containing 18 rounds of .556 ammunition.
Menjares was indicted on May 3, 2023, and pleaded guilty on August 6, 2025. Her criminal history includes three prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance, two convictions for possession with intent to distribute, and two convictions for unlawfully carrying a handgun.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Spears and announced by U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas.
