HENDERSON, Texas — A 32-year-old woman, Veronica Loredo, was arrested on Saturday after her 11-year-old son called authorities claiming she was burning the family dogs and believed he was “the devil.”
According to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, the boy called 911 around 1 p.m., prompting deputies to respond to the family’s home in Henderson, Texas. Just minutes later, at 1:04 p.m., a neighbor also called, reporting that a woman had shown up at their home with blood on her hands, claiming her parents had been killed.
Deputies arrived at 1:08 p.m. and found Loredo in a vehicle with four children aged 1 to 11. Authorities also discovered a fire burning in front of the house containing the remains of the dogs.
Loredo was taken into custody and charged with two counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals and four counts of endangering a child. Her bond was set at $400,000.
Child Protective Services (CPS) has also launched an investigation into the incident. Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez declined to provide further comment due to the ongoing nature of the case.
