Gomathi, a 28-year-old ward councillor and member of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), was tragically stabbed to death on Thursday night in Thirunindravur. The crime was allegedly committed by her husband, A. Stephan Raj, 34, his brother A. Ajith, 25, and their associate Johnson, 25.
Gomathi served as the 26th ward councillor of Thirunindravur municipality and chaired the taxation appeal committee. Married for ten years, she had four children with Stephan Raj, who is also the town secretary of VCK.
According to police, Gomathi had recently been staying at a relative’s house following a dispute with her husband. Around 9 p.m., she was seen speaking with a male friend near a rice mill in Nadukutthagai. Upon spotting her, Ajith and Johnson attacked her while the male friend escaped. Shortly after, Stephan Raj arrived, and they forcibly took Gomathi into an auto to their home.
During a struggle at the house, Stephan Raj fatally stabbed Gomathi. Police found her body near Thirunindravur and sent it for a post-mortem examination. The police promptly registered a murder case and arrested all three men within hours of the incident. They have since been remanded to judicial custody.
