A 22-year-old youth, Vasantha Kumar, who was arrested for sexually harassing a schoolboy in Coimbatore, has been detained under the Goondas Act.
The Sulur police had registered a case against him under the POCSO Act following complaints of sexual harassment and took him into custody.
Based on the recommendation of Superintendent of Police Dr. K Karthikeyan, the district collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar issued the order on Thursday to detain Kumar under the Goondas Act, citing the seriousness of the offence and the need to prevent repeat offences.
Police stated that the action is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard children and deter crimes against minors in the district.
