n a major crackdown on drug manufacturing, Boisar police raided a residential flat in Palghar’s Katkar Pada area and seized 1,208 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 2.42 crore in the early hours of Saturday. The police arrested 29-year-old Amaan Naim Murad from Vasai, who was allegedly running a drug manufacturing operation from the flat.
The authorities discovered not only the finished batch of Mephedrone but also raw materials used for production and a makeshift lab set up inside the rented apartment. Murad, who had been renting the flat for two and a half years, had moved his family to Vasai six months ago, shortly after quitting his job.
The investigation reveals that Murad’s background in the chemical industry could have played a role in his ability to manufacture the narcotic substance. Police are now focusing on uncovering the supply chain and identifying any possible accomplices.
Murad has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. He was remanded to two days of police custody following his court appearance.
The Boisar police continue to expand their probe, aiming to dismantle the drug network Murad was part of, and further investigations are underway.
