In a significant verdict from Vasai, the sessions court has acquitted Bles Ankles Tapeli and Moshe Valtar Katwar, both 26, in a 2021 criminal case involving alleged murder and outraging a woman’s modesty.
The case arose after the two were accused of assaulting a man and harassing his wife. However, the prosecution could not produce the key female witness, whose testimony was crucial to the case. The court noted that had she been examined, the outcome might have differed.
Further complicating the prosecution’s case, both the informant and the sole eye-witness turned hostile during the proceedings. The judge, H A S Mulla, emphasized that without sufficient evidence or live witness accounts, the investigation officer’s testimony alone could not sustain the charges.
Consequently, the court concluded that there was no case left for the prosecution, resulting in the full acquittal of Tapeli and Katwar.
