In a major operation against drug trafficking, Mohali Police arrested three individuals, including a woman, for their alleged role in a heroin smuggling racket. The arrests were made under the jurisdiction of Gharuan police station, and the suspects were remanded to four days of police custody, confirmed SSP Deepak Pareek.
According to DSP Kharar, Karan Singh Sandhu, a team led by SI Balvinder Singh, SHO of Gharuan, intercepted a Chandigarh-registered Honda City near SYL canal at Batta village during a routine check based on intelligence inputs.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 99.3 grams of heroin hidden inside the dashboard. The seizure was conducted in the presence of a gazetted officer, as mandated by law.
The car’s occupants, identified as Varinder Singh of Kharar and Rahul Sharma of Kurali, were taken into custody. During interrogation, they revealed the involvement of Amandeep Kaur, alias Billi, also from Kurali. She was later arrested for her role in the drug operation.
Further investigation led to the seizure of three additional vehicles allegedly used in the drug trade — a Hyundai Verna and Maruti Swift (both Chandigarh-registered), and a Punjab-registered motorcycle.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and anticipate more arrests and recoveries in the coming days.
