Colombo — Vana Kushani Nanayakkara, wife of former State Minister Dunesh Gankanda, was arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) in connection with a high-profile income tax fraud case.

Her arrest followed the issuance of an open warrant by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court over a long-pending case filed by the Inland Revenue Department. Nanayakkara stands accused of evading income tax payments totaling over Rs. 700 million.

Nanayakkara, who serves as a director of Green Lanka Travels, Green Seed Lanka, and Green Sri Lanka Shipping, allegedly failed to remit taxes on income generated through these companies despite repeated notices from tax authorities.

After ignoring three prior court summonses, the Colombo Magistrate directed Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya to arrest Nanayakkara immediately and produce her before the court.
