Vakil Ahmed, a man wanted in a human trafficking case, was apprehended by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) sleuths while trying to escape the country. Ahmed, a resident of Delhi, was taken into custody at Mumbai’s international airport as he attempted to board a flight to Bangkok.
The Vadodara police had earlier issued a Look-Out Circular (LOC) for Ahmed after his involvement emerged in a human trafficking case registered in the city last year.
According to the police, the complainant, a man from Odisha, had been in contact with the prime accused, Manish Hingoo, and his accomplice Krishna Pathak, through WhatsApp. Hingoo, who was arrested by the Vadodara Crime Branch last year in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), had lured the complainant with the promise of a job in Vietnam.
The complainant traveled to Vadodara, where he met Hingoo at the UES office in Subhanpura. There, Hingoo allegedly handed him a job offer letter for a computer operator position with a company called Delta in Vietnam, further deepening the human trafficking scheme.
The arrest of Vakil Ahmed marks another significant step in unraveling the human trafficking ring that spanned multiple regions. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover more details about the network and its operations.
