A 60-year-old Uzbek national, Mayramkan Karabasheva Alibaevna, was arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly stealing three valuable handbags from another passenger at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

The incident occurred on June 15, when a woman arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, reported that three handbags she had purchased abroad were missing from the luggage conveyor belt.

Airport CCTV footage captured Mayramkan Alibaevna deliberately picking up the handbags and quickly exiting the terminal in a cab. The cab details led investigators to the Paharganj area, where the woman was later apprehended by immigration officials at IGI Airport.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani, the accused admitted she frequently visited India for her garment business and claimed she took the bags upon spotting them unattended and “valuable.”

All three stolen handbags were recovered from a Paharganj hotel room where one of her relatives was staying. A case has been registered, and further legal action is underway.
