In a major bust, Ranchi police arrested a drug peddler, Gangasagar Rai, from Uttar Pradesh, who was allegedly supplying cannabis to Ranchi and its surrounding districts. Rai, a native of Gazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from a house near Ratu Maharaj Talab after a tip-off led police to suspect drug activity in the area.
Acting on the information, a special team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arvind Kumar conducted a raid at the residence of Hazi Ansari, where Rai was staying as a tenant. The police discovered 22 kg of cannabis, packed in bags and hidden inside a room of the house. The cannabis, estimated to be worth Rs12 lakh, had been transported from Jharsugoda, Odisha, and was intended for distribution to local retail sellers in Ranchi.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sumit Agrawal confirmed the arrest and stated that the police had registered a case under the NDPS Act. He also mentioned that further raids were underway to identify and arrest other individuals involved in the drug trade. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal narcotic activities in the region.
