In a major crackdown on interstate vehicle theft, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) arrested four members of a gang involved in stealing tractors from Odisha, Assam, and West Bengal, and supplying them to buyers in western Uttar Pradesh.
The arrests were made at Pakbara in Moradabad after intelligence inputs led the STF to intercept a canter truck used by the gang to transport stolen tractors. During the operation, four tractors stolen from West Bengal were recovered, along with the canter truck.
According to STF officials, the gang operated a well-organised network. They would steal tractors from eastern states, conceal them in covered trucks, and bring them to Moradabad. Once in the city, the tractors’ engine and chassis numbers were allegedly altered before being sold as legitimate second-hand vehicles.
The accused have been identified as Jane Alam, Kasim, Mustaqeem, and Sherpal. Interrogation revealed that the gang had been active across multiple states for a long period. Further investigation is ongoing to identify more accomplices and track down buyers involved in the racket.
