Police in Kerala, assisted by a special investigation team from Uttar Pradesh, have arrested a wanted highway robbery suspect, identified as Rizakath, from a lodge on Chittoor Road on Friday.

Rizakath was wanted for his alleged role in a robbery on December 15, during which a gang targeted a collection agent riding a bike on the Delhi-Lucknow highway. Police said the gang followed the victim in a car and a two-wheeler, deliberately hit the bike causing it to overturn, and escaped with a bag containing Rs85 lakh.

Using CCTV footage and mobile tower data, the UP investigation team tracked Rizakath’s movements to Kerala. With the help of the Ernakulam Central Police, officers located and arrested him at a lodge in Kochi. Police recovered Rs10,000 from his possession.

Five other gang members have already been apprehended in connection with the case. The UP police had released CCTV images of the gang and announced a reward for information leading to arrests.

A senior official with Central Police said that after his arrest in the morning, the UP team obtained a transit warrant from a court in Ernakulam later that day and took Rizakath back to UP for further investigation.
