Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the high-profile murder of Patna-based industrialist Gopal Khemka, including Umesh Rai, the man identified as the shooter.
According to a senior police officer, who declined to be named, Umesh Rai was apprehended alongside another person suspected of hiring him for the contract killing. Both were arrested in Patna by a joint operation involving the Special Task Force (STF) and Patna Police.
The officer stated, “Both persons have been held in Patna. The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be revealed soon.”
Gopal Khemka, reportedly associated with the BJP, was shot dead near the gate of his residence in the Gandhi Maidan locality at around 11:40 PM on Friday. The murder was carried out by a bike-borne assailant.
This tragedy came seven years after Khemka’s son was also gunned down in Hajipur, raising serious concerns over targeted violence against the family.
In response to the killing, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the law and order situation in Bihar. He instructed law enforcement to expedite the investigation and ensure justice is served swiftly.
