Udupi Police Arrest Mohammed Yunis, Iqbal & Nasir for Cattle Theft

Three Booked for Theft and Slaughter in Shirlalu Village

Udupi: Police in Udupi district have arrested three individuals in connection with the theft and slaughter of cattle in Shirlalu village, Karkala taluk. The accused have been identified as:

Mohammed Yunis (31) – Nalluru village, Karkala taluk
Mohammed Iqbal (29) – Puthige village, Moodbidri taluk, Dakshina Kannada
Nasir alias Mohammed Nasir (28) – Kallabettu village, Moodbidri taluk, Dakshina Kannada

The theft occurred on September 29, 2025, when three head of cattle were stolen from the cowshed of Jayashree at Shirlalu village and subsequently slaughtered.

The police registered cases under multiple provisions, including Sections 329(3), 329(4), 309, 324(4) r/w 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act, and Section 11(1)(D) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Investigation revealed the involvement of Yunis and Iqbal in organized crime, prompting invocation of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA). Another accused, Shuktat Ali from Moodbidri taluk, was also charged under KCOCA.

All accused were produced before the jurisdictional court and remanded in judicial custody, though they were initially granted bail. Police continue to investigate possible links to other organized crime activities in the region.
