In a significant breakthrough, Udupi Police arrested F Kasim from Cavelossim, Karnataka, on February 4 for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 13.6 lakh. Kasim’s arrest followed a complaint filed by Kashinath Naik from Pune, who accused the suspect of stealing gold jewellery from a room at the Varca resort that was occupied by Naik’s son and daughter-in-law.

The police, aided by CCTV footage from the resort, quickly traced the suspect to Kasim, a resident of Cavelossim. During the search, the police recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 3.6 lakh, matching the stolen items from Naik’s family.

Upon interrogation, Kasim allegedly confessed to being involved in a second theft in October of the previous year. In connection with this, the police also seized Rs 10 lakh worth of gold in its original form from S M Pradeep in Mangalore. The police are continuing their investigation into Kasim’s possible involvement in other similar crimes.
