According to a police spokesperson, Jeevan Kumar and Sunil Kumar, both residents of Jaganoo village, were nabbed at Tikri on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Police intercepted them during routine checks and found 9.40 grams of heroin, worth approximately Rs6 lakh, in their possession.
In a separate operation at the Flata checkpoint in Rehambal area, police arrested Sanjay Kumar (a driver) and Rohit Kumar from Kah-Phalata village. Officers recovered 9.60 kilograms of poppy straw, estimated at Rs1 lakh.
All four individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the spokesman said.
Since January, Udhampur district police have registered 61 NDPS cases, arrested 87 individuals, and seized 22 vehicles used in drug transportation. They have also frozen 43 bank accounts linked to drug networks, totaling over Rs16.7 lakh, and attached properties worth Rs4.69 crore, including homes and commercial assets.
