The Charleston Police Department has arrested two individuals in connection with a series of violent shootings over the weekend. Tyris Ashbury, 39, from North Charleston, faces three counts of first-degree assault and battery. A 16-year-old, also arrested, is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, two counts of first-degree assault and battery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Ashbury’s arrest relates to a Sunday night shooting on Johnson Street that tragically left 24-year-old Briana Cason dead. While Ashbury fired a gun during the incident, it remains unclear whether he fired the fatal shot. Further charges could follow as the investigation unfolds.
The 16-year-old was apprehended after a separate shooting on Sunday morning near America and Johnson Streets, where a victim was injured but not critically harmed.
