Durham, NC – A man has been arrested in connection with two armed robberies that occurred in Durham on January 15, 2025. Tyler Ussery, 28, was taken into custody by the Durham Police Department’s Organized Crime Division, Robbery Unit, and the FBI. The arrest happened shortly after 5:15 p.m. in the 3800 block of Ben Franklin Blvd.
Ussery has been charged with multiple offenses, including robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges stem from two separate incidents that took place on the same day.
The first robbery occurred at 5:08 p.m. at a Shoe Show store located in the 3500 block of N. Roxboro Rd. The second armed robbery occurred earlier that day, at 5:59 a.m. at a BP Station in the 300 block of S. Alston Ave.
Authorities said Ussery allegedly entered both establishments, threatened employees with a firearm, and stole money before fleeing the scenes. Investigators identified Ussery as the suspect, and a coordinated effort between the Durham Police Department and the FBI led to his arrest.
In addition to the robbery charges, Ussery faces a charge for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, as he has a criminal record prohibiting him from owning or possessing a weapon.
Police are continuing to investigate the incidents, and further charges or arrests are possible. Ussery is currently being held at the Durham County Jail without bond, pending further court proceedings.
The Durham Police Department, alongside the FBI, continues to urge anyone with information related to these crimes or other similar incidents to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
