Tyler Stanford Convicted in Cellmate Philip Garcia’s Death

Manslaughter plea replaces murder charge in 2022 prison case

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Tyler Stanford, 39, has been convicted in the 2022 killing of his cellmate, Philip Garcia, at the Nebraska State Penitentiary.

The incident occurred on October 29, 2022. Stanford was initially charged with first-degree murder, but the charge was later reduced to manslaughter after he entered a no-contest plea.

A Lancaster County judge found him guilty of manslaughter and attempted commission of a Class 2 felony.

Stanford is currently being held at Lancaster County Jail on a bond set at 10% of $2.5 million. His sentencing is scheduled for November 17.
