Ty Jackson Arrested After Allegedly Striking Deputy During Argument

24-Year-Old Faces Charges After Battery on Law Enforcement Officer

by Amelia Crawford

Ty Jackson, a 24-year-old resident of Palm Coast’s S Section, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly striking a deputy who was attempting to defuse an argument. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) reports that Jackson was booked on charges of nonviolent obstruction and battery on a law enforcement officer. He was later released on a $2,000 bond.

According to the FCSO’s account, Deputy Evan Bishop, along with other deputies, responded to a report of a physical disturbance on Selma Trail in Palm Coast’s S Section. Upon arrival, the deputies found four people engaged in a heated argument in the road.

Deputy Bishop made contact with Jackson and attempted to de-escalate the situation. He ordered Jackson to walk toward a patrol vehicle, but Jackson reportedly ignored the instruction, continuing to yell and attempt to rejoin the argument. As Deputy Bishop intervened to stop Jackson from re-engaging, Jackson allegedly swatted at the deputy’s arm. Bishop then attempted to restrain Jackson, who resisted by holding his arms in front of him. Another deputy, Rick Stanford, assisted in handcuffing Jackson and placing him in a patrol vehicle.

The three other individuals involved in the dispute stated that the altercation had remained verbal, with no physical confrontation occurring. Jackson was the only person arrested.

Sheriff Rick Staly commented on the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of the charge. “If you batter a Deputy Sheriff, you’ll end up in jail. It’s as simple as that,” said Sheriff Staly. “Our deputies were trying to do their job and defuse a disturbance before it became more serious, but this guy could not control his temper and got himself a trip to the [county jail] charged with a felony.”
