Police in Nonthaburi have arrested two Vietnamese men, Nguyen Huu Luc (34) and Do Van Hiep (36), for their involvement in a series of thefts across the province. The suspects, who entered Thailand legally on tourist visas, were apprehended on December 18, 2024, at a love hotel in the Bang Rak Noi district, following an extensive investigation into thefts in the Bang Bua Thong, Bang Kruai, Bang Si Mueang, and Chaiyaphruek areas.
The thefts began in the Chaiyaphruek neighborhood and quickly spread to other regions, with the suspects breaking into homes and stealing valuables. In some instances, they managed to crack open safes and steal large amounts of items. The duo’s latest crime was a theft at a car showroom. Police were able to track them using security footage from the showroom and surrounding areas.
Following their investigation, officers located the suspects in a taxi and tracked them to the love hotel, where they were arrested. Inside their hotel room, over 500 stolen items were discovered, including electronics, mobile phones, valuable amulets, shoes, bags, clothing, and cash.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to entering Thailand in November 2024. They claimed to have resorted to theft due to financial struggles and unemployment. While Nguyen denied involvement in the crimes, stating that Do acted alone, both men were charged with conspiring to commit theft at night. This offense carries a penalty of one to five years’ imprisonment and a fine ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 baht.
The investigation continues, and police are working to return the stolen goods to their rightful owners.
