Two men, both from Venezuela, have been arrested in connection with the theft of an automated teller machine (ATM) in Cleveland. Winker Jose Nava Herrera, 33, and Jose Valero Rojas, 21, face charges related to the theft and money laundering.
The investigation into the theft began last month when the Cleveland Police Department reached out to the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security for assistance. The investigation has expanded, involving agencies from both Mississippi and Texas.
Herrera and Rojas were arrested in Texas, where they face money laundering charges and are being held pending extradition. Authorities also believe the pair were involved in tampering with an ATM in Clarksdale, Mississippi, using a device that enabled them to steal money from the machine.
The investigation into their activities continues, and authorities are working to determine the full scope of the thefts.
