On Thursday, February 20, police conducted a “Walk and Talk” initiative near 760 Boylston Street in response to ongoing thefts in the area.
While patrolling, officers observed an individual walking past the point of sale inside the Dicks Sporting Goods store, triggering the store’s alarm. Officers immediately identified themselves and stopped the individual, recovering $418 worth of stolen merchandise.
The suspect provided multiple false names to officers, but after further investigation, was properly identified. The individual had nine active arrest warrants, including charges for shoplifting and drug possession.
Simultaneously, another suspect was stopped by officers after attempting to steal a duffle bag. This individual also provided a false name, but once identified, it was revealed he had four active warrants for his arrest, including three counts of shoplifting, two counts of larceny, and drug possession.
Later that evening, officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at 497 Boylston Street. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Carolina Andrade from Boston, had attempted to steal $230 worth of merchandise. Andrade became combative with store security and even tried to throw a shoe at them.
When officers arrived, Andrade refused to comply and spat in the face of one of the officers. She was arrested and charged with:
Shoplifting by Asportation
Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
Assault and Battery to Intimidate
Additionally, officers discovered that Andrade had an outstanding warrant for harassment related to electronic communications.
She is currently expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
