Ambedkarnagar police on Sunday arrested two Dial 112 PRV constables, Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav, along with an associate, Pramod Singh, in connection with a Rs 2 lakh cheating and extortion case involving a Gorakhpur resident. One of the accused is still absconding.
The victim, Shivam Mishra, a resident of Rustampur Azad Chowk in Gorakhpur, received WhatsApp messages and phone calls offering 50 grams of gold for Rs 2 lakh at a highly discounted price. He was called to a pre-decided spot on January 13, 2026, where Pramod Singh demanded the money while handing over a bag purportedly containing gold.
Upon opening the bag, Shivam discovered fake currency notes instead of gold and refused to pay. At that moment, PRV constables Anil Yadav and Adarsh Yadav, posted in the Rajesultanpur police station area, allegedly arrived and threatened the victim, taking Rs 2 lakh and warning him of dire consequences if he raised an alarm.
The victim later filed a written complaint at Rajesultanpur police station on January 23, identifying all the accused, including the policemen. Following the FIR registration, the investigation confirmed the involvement of the two constables.
All three accused were produced before a court after medical examination and were remanded to judicial custody. Superintendent of Police Abhijeet R Shankar ordered the immediate suspension of both constables and initiated departmental proceedings against them. Additional Superintendent of Police (East), Shyam Dev, confirmed that strict action was taken and police teams are searching for the remaining accused who is still on the run.
