Two men from New York have been indicted for attempting to scam a 76-year-old woman in Seabrook, New Hampshire out of $20,000, according to the state Attorney General’s Office. A press release issued Thursday stated that the Rockingham County Grand Jury returned indictments against Didi Huang, 47, of Brooklyn, and Li Geng Lin, 58, of Flushing. Both men face a class A felony charge of attempted theft by deception.

The incident occurred on June 2, when the woman received a phone call from someone claiming to be a PayPal representative. The caller told her that her account had received an overpayment and she needed to return $20,000 immediately. The scammer also claimed that another PayPal employee would come to her home to collect the money in person.

Later that day, both Huang and Lin showed up at the woman’s residence to retrieve the cash. Seabrook Police arrested the two men on the same day.

The suspects are scheduled to be arraigned at Rockingham County Superior Court on October 2 at 10 a.m. If convicted, each could face a sentence of 7½ to 15 years in state prison and a fine of up to $4,000.

The investigation was led by the Seabrook Police Department, with support from investigators Calice Couchman-Ducey and Robert Sullivan of the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office.
