Bangkok authorities have arrested two Nigerian men, Ihejimba Bright Chimezie and Azubuike Chdiebere David, in connection with an international drug trafficking case after a Thai woman caught smuggling cocaine into Japan implicated them.
Immigration and narcotics control police raided a condominium on Navamin-Ram Intra Road in Kannayao district on Tuesday, where both men were apprehended. Investigators discovered that they had overstayed their visas, leading to immediate immigration charges.
The arrests were triggered by the detention of a Thai woman in Japan, who was caught attempting to smuggle 700 grams of cocaine by swallowing 59 small packets of the drug. The seized cocaine had an estimated street value of 2.1 million baht, according to Pol Maj Gen Phanthana Nuchanart, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau.
During questioning, the woman revealed her connection to one of the Nigerian suspects, claiming they were involved in illicit drug operations. Acting on intelligence from Japanese authorities, Thai police tracked the two men to their condominium and arrested them.
The suspects have been handed over to immigration authorities for legal proceedings, while investigations into their alleged drug activities continue.
