Two men were arrested in Somerset, Kentucky, following an investigation into stolen timber from the Daniel Boone National Forest. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) conducted a search of a Somerset home on Wednesday, which led to the discovery of drugs, firearms, and other illicit materials.
Sheriff Bobby Jones reported that 33-year-old Trent Whitaker and 37-year-old Nathaniel Whitis, both of Somerset, were arrested after the search revealed substances believed to be methamphetamine, firearms, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and stolen property. The search was part of a joint effort with US Forest Service agents investigating crimes in the Daniel Boone National Forest.
The investigation began with suspicions of timber theft, which led to the search warrant for the property on Highway 1003 in Somerset. During the search, methamphetamine was discovered in two separate locations inside the home.
Whitaker was charged with first-degree, first-offense possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), while Whitis, who had two failure to appear bench warrants, was also charged with first-degree possession of methamphetamine.
Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Pulaski County Detention Center.
