Two men were arrested Tuesday evening in North Charleston after a proactive police patrol led to the seizure of multiple controlled substances, the North Charleston Police Department reported.
Erek Lynn Cox, 37, was charged with possession of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, while 19-year-old Gerardo Juarez Ramirez was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Officers were patrolling the Charleston Farms community near Remount Road around 6 p.m. while attempting to locate a man reportedly riding in an unregistered vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed several individuals attempting to hide. One suspect was seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle, while another stood nearby.
During the investigation, officers discovered a large bag of green plant material protruding from a suspect’s pocket. When the individual attempted to pull away, he was quickly detained. A subsequent search revealed approximately 40 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for THC.
Police also observed a plastic bag containing additional green plant material on the passenger side floorboard of the vehicle. A further probable cause search uncovered 0.3 grams of a white powdery substance and six grams of clear crystalline material. Field tests confirmed the substances were presumptively fentanyl, methamphetamine, and THC.
Both suspects were taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
