In a significant breakthrough, Forest Department officials have arrested two men from Kerala for their involvement in the killing of a wild bison near Ooty in Nilgiris district. The suspects, Aneesh Mon and Nishar, both from Nilambur, Kerala, were apprehended in Naduvattam after the authorities tracked a Kerala-registered car suspected to be involved in the poaching.

The incident occurred near Kallakorai village, along the road leading to B Maniyatty village, where locals discovered a dead wild bison. Upon investigation, the Forest Department officials found that the animal had been shot, and a bullet was later removed during a post-mortem by a veterinarian.

During interrogation, both arrested men, Aneesh Mon and Nishar, confessed to shooting and killing the bison. The vehicle and weapons used in the poaching were seized, and the authorities are continuing to search for two additional suspects who fled the scene.

Following the arrest, the Forest Department has been intensifying its efforts to monitor and prevent illegal hunting. The department has increased night patrols across the region, especially to curb the activities of hunting gangs targeting wildlife in the area. A similar gang was arrested earlier near the Emerald area after authorities intercepted a vehicle with illegal weapons.
