Two Men Arrested for Attempting to Smuggle Drugs with Cannon

Suspects planned to launch meth and tobacco into federal prison

GRANT PARISH, La. (KKTV/Gray News) – Two men were arrested after attempting to use a cannon to smuggle drugs and tobacco into a federal prison in Louisiana.

Jose Francisco Herrera Munoz, 18, and Angel Gonzales Gutierrez, 19, are now facing charges for attempting to introduce contraband into a penal institution and attempting to distribute methamphetamine.

According to the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office, an investigation revealed that the two suspects planned to launch approximately $112,000 worth of tobacco and $89,500 worth of methamphetamine over the security fence of a federal prison using a cannon. The cannon, which could fire items up to 350 feet into the air, was intended to drop the contraband onto prison grounds.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the suspects’ motives or the specific federal prison involved.
