SEPANG: Two men have been arrested in separate drug trafficking cases at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2, with police seizing drugs valued at over RM1.6 million.

On March 27, police detained a 38-year-old Indonesian man at the KLIA arrival hall at 10:15 AM after observing suspicious behavior. Upon searching his luggage, authorities discovered five new laptop bags, each containing two black-wrapped packages with suspected cocaine. The total weight of the drugs was 5,726g, valued at RM1,145,200. The drugs were believed to have been brought in from Brazil for distribution outside Malaysia. The suspect, who had no criminal record in Malaysia, tested negative on an initial urine test.

In a separate incident on March 29, a 48-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at 8:30 AM at the KLIA2 departure hall. Police found 15 plastic-wrapped packages containing crystal-like and powdered substances, believed to be methamphetamine, weighing a total of 15,978g. The drugs, valued at RM511,296, were intended for distribution in Sarawak. The suspect, with five prior drug-related offenses, tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Both men have been remanded to assist with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted, they face mandatory life imprisonment or the death penalty, along with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane.
