MARION COUNTY, FL — Two men were recently arrested after fleeing from a vehicle during a traffic stop in the Turning Leaf Subdivision, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were conducting a security check in the area when they observed a white Chevy pickup truck driving recklessly. Upon initiating a traffic stop, all occupants of the vehicle fled on foot.
Deputies quickly apprehended two of the individuals — 23-year-old Johnny Shayne Simpson of Ocala, and 19-year-old Joelle Hanks of Marion Oaks. A search of both men revealed multiple controlled substances, leading to their arrest.
Charges for Johnny Shayne Simpson:
Three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
Possession and/or use of drug equipment
Violation of parole (from a previous domestic violence charge)
Bond revocation (related to prior charges including:
Driving while license suspended (habitual offender)
Two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer)
Simpson is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond for the parole violation and on an $18,500 bond for the new charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 20 at 9 a.m.
Notably, Simpson was also arrested in June following a domestic violence incident stemming from a Facebook-related dispute. In that case, he was charged with domestic battery (second or subsequent offense) and violating his bond from a February arrest involving battery on a law enforcement officer and an EMS worker.
