Two employees were arrested for allegedly stealing money from a popular biryani outlet in Park Circus after the eatery filed a complaint with the police. The Beniapukur police arrested the two accused individuals, Prasenjit Maiti and Sheikh Gulam Nabi Azad, for their involvement in the theft.
According to the police, Prasenjit, who worked as a waiter, and Gulam, who joined as a cashier two months ago, were found transferring customer payments to their personal e-wallets. The restaurant management became suspicious and discovered that these employees had been siphoning off money by providing their own e-wallet numbers instead of the company’s official details.
After Prasenjit stopped reporting to work, it was suspected that he had been caught stealing. Gulam was lured back to the restaurant, where he was arrested. The duo admitted to stealing around Rs 1 lakh from the eatery through this fraudulent method.
However, there were reports of some restaurant staff members assaulting the accused before handing them over to the police, which has sparked concerns among human rights activists. They are now calling for an investigation into the incident.
