In a swift operation, the East Guwahati Police Department, acting on intelligence, arrested Libion Boro (18) and Julius Majaw (23), both residents of Byrnihat, at Jorabat Crossing. The police seized 17 vials of heroin weighing 22.7 grams along with two mobile phones from their possession.
The authorities are investigating the duo’s involvement in a larger drug trafficking network.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation in South Salmara Mankachar district, South Salmara Mankachar police arrested another drug peddler during a raid in Kharuabandha OP. Seized from his possession were 2.33 grams of suspected heroin, 1,400 yaba tablets in seven plastic packets, 134 empty plastic vials, 21 aluminum foils, and a black smartphone. The examination of his phone revealed links to drug smuggling operations between India and Bangladesh.
The accused confessed to smuggling drugs across the border, throwing them into Bangladesh. Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest others involved in the trafficking.
In a major operation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), 26 kg of methamphetamine tablets were seized in Cachar District, Assam on January 19. The methamphetamine, smuggled through the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, was intercepted in the Dwarband Bazar area as part of efforts to dismantle organized drug syndicates operating in the North Eastern Region of India.
