BOSTON (WWLP) — Two brothers from Lynn, Massachusetts, were arrested last Thursday and charged in connection with a series of firearms and drug distribution offenses.
According to charging documents, 38-year-old Maurice Bennett was identified as a member of the Bloods street gang in Lynn in 2024. Maurice has prior convictions related to violent crimes involving firearms. Authorities say investigators intercepted text messages between Maurice and his brother, 29-year-old Meliek Bennett, where they allegedly coordinated the distribution of various drugs, including marijuana, counterfeit pills, prescription medication, and cocaine. The brothers reportedly discussed sharing drug customers, supplies, and even planned a trip to New Hampshire to sell their substances.
In a significant twist, investigators recorded a conversation in September 2024, where Meliek allegedly planned to use a silenced pistol to attack a drug supplier’s residence. Meliek, according to the text messages and recordings, was seeking revenge for being beaten by the supplier and owed him a debt.
Soon after, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Meliek’s Lynn residence, where they discovered a .22 caliber pistol with a threaded barrel and ammunition. Authorities also found fentanyl tablets, oxycodone, gabapentin, and marijuana.
Both Maurice and Meliek Bennett were charged last Thursday with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Meliek also faced charges for possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The brothers are expected to be sentenced at a later date and could face up to 20 years in prison, along with at least five years of supervised release.
