Colorado Springs Pair Arrested with Fentanyl and Meth in Canon City
CANON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) — Two Colorado Springs residents were arrested late Saturday night after deputies found fentanyl pills and methamphetamine during a traffic stop in Fremont County.
At around 11:19 p.m., Fremont County deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at Humboldt Drive and Longs Peak Lane in Canon City. The vehicle was occupied by 41-year-old Jacob Heuvel and 49-year-old Amy Michels.
Following a search, deputies discovered 98 fentanyl pills and 7.5 grams of meth, along with drug paraphernalia. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Fremont County Detention Center.
They face multiple charges:
Unlawful possession with intent to distribute schedule I or II substances
Unlawful possession of schedule I or II substances
Second-degree introduction of contraband
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Despite the seriousness of the charges, Magistrate Claire Lebeau released both individuals on personal recognizance bonds.
“These arrests highlight the ongoing concern for community safety,” said Fremont County Sheriff Allen Cooper, criticizing the repeated release of offenders on PR bonds.
