In a significant drug bust, the Mufassil police in Bihar’s Purnea district arrested two individuals and seized a large quantity of drugs during a vehicle inspection on Thursday. The operation took place around 2:15 a.m. on the NH-31 flyover at Balouri village when a grey Swift car approaching from the Maranga side slowed down upon noticing the police and attempted to flee.
One of the occupants of the car exited and tried to escape on foot, but was quickly apprehended with the help of the police team. The arrested suspects were identified as Raunak Kumar, from near Khushki Bagh police station area at Sadar, and Ricky Singh, from Neva Lal Chowk police station area at Maranga, both in Purnea.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 5.19 kg of smack, valued at around Rs 5 crore in the international market. The contraband was neatly packed in 50 plastic bags, concealed in a specially designed box inside the car. Both individuals were arrested, and the drugs were seized.
The Mufassil police station registered an FIR under the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway to trace the suspects’ handlers. Brajesh Kumar, SHO of Mufassil police station, praised the efficiency of the operation and stated that further efforts are being made to uncover the larger network involved.
In a separate operation on the same day, East Champaran Police and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested five individuals in East Champaran district for carrying highly refined heroin and a chemical used in the production of brown sugar. A total of 2 kg of contraband and a refining chemical, valued at Rs 7 crore, were seized during a raid in Chhatauni police station.
The arrested individuals were placed in judicial custody, and the operation was praised for its collaboration between the East Champaran Police and the NCB.
