Two Arrested in Pittsylvania County on Child Pornography Charges

Jonathan DeWane Butler and Shawn Douglas Jones face multiple charges in connection with child pornography investigation

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – Two individuals were arrested on Friday, April 4, 2025, following an extensive investigation into the possession and distribution of child pornography. The arrests were made by the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office as part of a probe conducted by the Cybercrimes and Special Investigations Division.

Jonathan DeWane Butler, a 22-year-old from Chatham, was arrested and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography. In addition to these charges, Butler faces accusations of possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation, and facilitation of child pornography, all of which are classified as Class 6 felonies. His charges have been certified to the next Grand Jury for further consideration.

Shawn Douglas Jones, a 32-year-old from Blairs, was also arrested in connection with the investigation. Jones faces 15 counts of possession of child pornography, as well as charges similar to Butler’s, including possession, reproduction, distribution, solicitation, and facilitation of child pornography. Jones remains in jail without bond, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 14, 2025, at the Pittsylvania County General District Court.

The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has emphasized the importance of these investigations in protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring public safety. Law enforcement continues to work tirelessly to combat child exploitation, and these arrests serve as a reminder of their ongoing commitment to bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice.

Both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is part of a larger initiative to identify and prosecute individuals involved in the exploitation of minors.
